Los Ayudantes (the "Helpers") provide in-class tutoring & after school book clubs to help Redwood City students build English literacy skills and U.S. cultural awareness
We're an award-winning tutoring organization dedicated to helping Redwood City public school students improve English language literacy and U. S. cultural awareness. We work with small groups of students in the classroom, and provide after school enrichment and book clubs so children can get extra practice and be encouraged by positive adults who believe in them. We're passionate about literacy and about helping English learners reach grade level proficiency so they can be successful in school and build a solid foundation for their lives.

"Los Ayudantes is a great group of volunteers who care about our future. They come alongside to help in ways a teacher cannot accomplish alone." - Milagro Velasco, Language Arts teacher at McKinley Institute of Technology |
Our tutors bring a love of reading and learning
Since our inception in 2002, Los Ayudantes has delivered thousands of hours of small group tutoring to English learners in Redwood City schools. In small group language and reading comprehension practice, we celebrate progress as students grow their English language skills and cultural awareness.
Helping students build on strengths
Tutors help students build on strengths, appreciate and celebrate the linguistic and cultural knowledge they've already acquired, and leverage those skills for success in school.
